As announced by FSUE Rosmorport, on 3 April 2019 at the Port of Murmansk the ceremonial opening of the first phase of the port's wind-borne dust suppression facilities took place. The design and working documentation for these facilities was developed and drawn up by Morstroytechnology.

The event was attended by Andrey Chibis, acting Governor of the Murmansk Region, Sergey Dubovoy, Chairman of the Murmansk Regional Duma, and Andrey Sysoev, Head of the Murmansk City Government. FSUE Rosmorport was represented by Sergey Mazhirin, director of the organisation’s Murmansk branch office.

The dust suppression facilities take the form of 20m high screens, installed with consideration to Murmansk's “wind rose”, i.e. the city's prevailing wind directions and speeds. The screens surround the territory of the Port of Murmansk's second cargo terminal and are designed to protect the city from dust arising from the handling of coal and other dust-prone cargoes.

As part of the first phase of construction, screens have been installed along a 568m length of the territory of quay 14 of the Port of Murmansk.

According to FSUE Rosmorport data, by the end of 2020 a total of 2km of screens will have been installed as part of the second and third construction phases. As a result, a completely unbroken perimeter wall will be created around quays 1-14 of the maritime port.
